Occupational Therapy

The occupational therapy selection session has been designed as an opportunity for you to demonstrate your skills, insight into and understanding of the fundamental principles of the profession. Every shortlisted applicant to the programme will need to complete the screening process to provide us with the information we need in order to decide whether we can make them a conditional offer of a place on the programme.

We appreciate that you may feel anxious about attending the selection day; we do however see it as an important stage in your application, not only to help us to make our decisions but also as an opportunity for you to find out the information you need to be able to make informed decisions about your future career. During the day there will be plenty of opportunity to talk to and ask questions to academic staff and current students to find out all you want to know about us, our programmes and student life at Southampton.

You might find it helpful to take a little time before you arrive identifying any specific issues you would like to learn more about. Do feel comfortable to ask any questions about the programme, campus, accommodation, or finances and we will make every effort to provide the information you need.

What to expect

You will be asked to attend for 10am at which time staff from the Admissions Team will check the documents you have been asked to bring with you. During the morning you will be required to complete some handwritten and computer-based assessments. In the afternoon you will participate in a group activity with other candidates present. We hope also that you will take the opportunity to ask as many questions as you need to in order to help you to make the right decision for you with regard to where you will study. You are then invited to join us for a light sandwich lunch during which you will have opportunity to meet some of our current students who will be able to tell you all about their experiences as occupational therapy students at the University of Southampton. During the day there will be a presentation about the Occupational Therapy programme, placements and career opportunities and our students will take you on a tour of our facilities and the campus. There will also be a presentation about the University accommodation available to students. The day will finish at around 16:00.
