Southampton has an outstanding ranking and is renowned for its health sciences courses. It is also the only UK university to offer a distinct master’s in amputation and prosthetic rehabilitation designed for multiple health professionals. During my MSc I met professionals from diverse healthcare systems, gained valuable experiences, and learnt a lot from my fellow peers, prestigious speakers and lecturers. This all helped me grow as a person and a professional.

I chose the University of Southampton because of its commitment to excellent world-class research that really makes a difference to people’s lives. The Faculty of Health Sciences attaches significant importance to quality research and its experienced health professionals are internationally renowned.

I have felt well-supported by lecturers throughout my course, who have encouraged me to submit papers for publication in midwifery journals and to speak at the European Midwifery Association Conference in London.

I could not find any better place to support me in the task of improving the palliative and end of life care in my home country.

Studying here has been a wonderful experience so far. I’ve gained a lot from the course and the NHS about social policy. I hope to take this knowledge back to Ghana where I work as an NGO to affect policy in health and social care.

I have been incredibly impressed with the University of Southampton. My undergraduate degree gave me the opportunity to achieve the potential I didn’t know I had and uncovered a real passion for learning that has led me to a clinical academic pathway.

I feel very fortunate, this is a fantastic opportunity to improve services and care, which is absolutely fundamental to the NHS, and I’m doing something I never thought or dreamed I would be.

The highlight of my time in academia has been the publication of my work and winning awards, along with being able to bring theory back into practise to help shape a better future for patients and the NHS alike.

I am supervised by Professors which places me in an advantaged position to encourage and assist me in becoming a Clinical Academic Leader.

What initially attracted me to this University was the opportunity to develop my clinical and academic skills simultaneously. Being an early career researcher here has already opened up a great wealth of opportunities.

The prestige of being at Southampton has definitely helped open doors. Not only does the University offer a flexible approach but it’s also home to some of the UK’s leading experts.

The non-medical prescribing module has made such a difference to my practice - I had to really work hard at learning such a new level of biology. It means I can assess, diagnose and treat a patient in one episode.

My experience at Southampton has been incredibly valuable, particularly in learning about the research process in person. It’s also been great to find out more about the subject that interests me and start formulating some ideas to be able to research FAI further.

This programme develops you into a practitioner who has the ability to practice and think at an advanced level. The course journey is of self-discovery and personal enhancement.

My initial postgraduate diploma prepared me extremely well for clinical practice but putting on that Band 5 uniform, and taking on all the responsibility that goes with it, is another dimension all together!

I particularly enjoyed the Contemporary Issues in Limb Loss module as I was able to explore different technology used within prosthetic rehabilitation including the use of gaming and myoelectric prostheses.

I was keen to find a University which offered excellence in research as well as close involvement with the NHS. This University has strong links to both.

It was clear that we would not only graduate with proficient training and excellent practical experience, but we would come away with various skills required to one day becoming leaders of the profession.

I am stepping out of the programme as a confident leader, with solid strategy building, decision making, and research skills.

My lecturers were approachable and supportive. I felt nurtured through the process, it hasn't been simply about getting a degree but about becoming a better person.

I enjoy going through the rehabilitation process with patients and helping them to get back to normality, it’s so rewarding!

Choosing to study here has not only given me the opportunity to work with renowned researchers from the University but also collaborate with other advisors from Oxford.

Studying here has given me a whole new perspective into healthcare systems around the world.

In addition to a better education, my stay here has had a huge impact on the quality of my life, tremendously improving my cognitive and intellectual skills, elevating my self-esteem and positively changing my peer relationships.

I plan to work in a hospital as an administrator at first, to apply what I have learned and find suitable approaches to ameliorate medical environment. After some years’ practice, I will transfer to other hospitals in different areas because medical needs and current circumstances of health care vary in Chinese provinces.

Becoming a student researcher has been the most satisfying thing I’ve ever done professionally or academically and it’s an absolute privilege to be able to carry out this kind of work. It may be incredibly challenging but it’s contributing to our knowledge and helping move our understanding forward.

I strongly believe that this course will definitely empower my desire to lead and improve quality services in the Ukraine and help me manage strategically and make considered decisions.

Working, living and breathing in the very same environment where my research is happening gives me a better understanding of the experience of patients and healthcare professionals.

I chose Southampton because of the University’s reputation in Health Sciences and its renowned Palliative and End of Life Care Research Group. When I return to Thailand I plan to use the knowledge I’ve gained here to help improve the quality of life for my patients.

This course is a steppingstone to my career in Occupational Therapy and hopefully it’ll guide me to an area within Occupational Therapy I can be successful and make a difference to people’s lives

The most insightful thing I have learnt in my time at Southampton so far is that nothing is impossible! If you want to progress, not only in your studies, but socially, there are always opportunities.

Having worked as a clinical specialist in the NHS for some time, I wanted to be inspired, grow professionally and to enable meaningful change that would improve patient experiences and outcomes of care

I am most proud of pushing myself out of my comfort zone as Southampton has really allowed me to increase my confidence. I am a step closer to my dream career of being a physiotherapist for the NHS.

I have been able to achieve things I had never previously considered.

I’m enjoying the variety of settings for practice placements. They have given me a perfect opportunity to learn outside of the lecture environment.

The facilities at the University are incredible as are the tutors - for me having such good sport facilities was important and meant I could easily take my mind off studying whilst remaining on campus - the atmosphere and community are fantastic.

The experiences I’ve had in studying at the University of Southampton have been life changing in an incredibly positive way.

This University has given me the opportunity to flourish and accumulate the knowledge I need to take back to my home country, Bangladesh, and make a substantial difference.

I chose to stay in Southampton to do a PhD because the Web Science CDT offered a new interdisciplinary perspective to research. This would allow me to take my skills in Computer Science and apply it to solving problems with technology in healthcare, an area I had become interested in.

I feel that I’m constantly progressing, constantly moving forward. I also like the flexibility I have had to work across many different clinical settings in hospital and community.
