Southampton has an outstanding ranking and is renowned for its health sciences courses. It is also the only UK university to offer a distinct master’s in amputation and prosthetic rehabilitation designed for multiple health professionals. During my MSc I met professionals from diverse healthcare systems, gained valuable experiences, and learnt a lot from my fellow peers, prestigious speakers and lecturers. This all helped me grow as a person and a professional.

Why did you choose to come and study at Southampton?

As we all know, the University of Southampton is renowned for its health sciences courses and generally has an outstanding international ranking. I chose Southampton for my masters because of the availability of a distinct master's course. Other universities do not offer MSc amputation and prosthetic rehabilitation in the UK with the same curriculum.

What is it like studying here?

As an international student, I have never been on campus before taking admission. I chose the University of Southampton due to my course; however, I was surprised by the university's fantastic facilities. It was the first time I travelled alone, and I was anxious about the journey and settlement. Thanks to the excellent team for international students who managed everything, they helped to move to halls accommodation, they hosted a lovely dinner gathering for all international students. The international community in the university is impressive, and I met beautiful people throughout the year.

How do you rate study facilities at the University?

The University of Southampton offers excellent facilities on campus. I adored the availability of an extensive selection of coffee and food options on campus. I used to grab a quick coffee or lunch in between my lectures. Another facility I made the most was the jubilee sports centre. It was very convenient to go to the gym after lectures and call it a day. The amazing Hartley library was my home during exams season, and late busses at night were very convenient to go back to my accommodation.

What have been your Southampton ‘highlights’ (best experiences) so far?

I can say that my whole academic year was a wonderful experience. However, the support and welcome i received by the student union and my personal academic tutor was exceptional. I spent a day observing in the Portsmouth enablement center and learned a lot about the rehabilitation services provided to amputees. Our course leaders also arranged great activities for us like industrial day, posters day, etc.

How has your time at Southampton helped you to grow as a person?

My MSc course was designed for multiple health professionals; I met various professionals from diverse healthcare systems and valuable experiences. I learned a lot from my fellow peers and all the prestigious speakers and lecturers, which helped me grow as a person and a professional.

What are you enjoying most about your course?

I enjoy the block method used to deliver lectures for my class. i also appreciate the support provided by the program's lead to all the students and special consideration given to us due to covid-19.

Do you have the opportunity to study modules outside of your core subject area?

I attended two modules outside my core subject; one of them helped me learn about myself and explore my personality as a leader. The other one was related to diabetes, and it was conducted in the university hospital Southampton. It provided me the insight regarding primary care of diabetes. Both of the courses were informative and taught subject areas related to my primary course.

Did you/do you stay in University accommodation? What was it like?

I stayed in university halls, more specific in glen eyre halls. I met all of my friends in my accommodation, and I spent COVID months in halls with their support. I was pleased by the support I received from 24 hours of reception and onsite security.

What is the city of Southampton like to live in?

I appreciate the greenery around the university and halls. Southampton is a beautiful city with a contemporary and modern touch, but it is also connected to nature. 

What do you plan to do once you graduate?

I am planning to work for NHS after graduation to earn good experience.

How will you use the skills and experience you have learnt at Southampton in the future?

I am planning to work on the development of guidelines for amputees rehabilitation in Pakistan.
