Hi, I'm Mulbah Kollie and I studied MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (Children and Young People) within Health Sciences at the University of Southampton.

In addition to a better education, my stay here has had a huge impact on the quality of my life, tremendously improving my cognitive and intellectual skills, elevating my self-esteem and positively changing my peer relationships.

 

I had absolutely no hesitation in accepting an offer from the University of Southampton and it has surpassed its reputation by far. I found the University to be a stimulating and student-friendly environment, but one which is also built around accommodating a diversity of cultures and language support for students whose first language is not English.

Prior to studying here I was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from my home country Liberia, and now I have returned I’m working as a nurse educator in one of Liberia’s outstanding colleges in nursing education. My job encompasses teaching and mentoring student nurses, creating a curriculum for the nursing programme and improving practice development for increasing staff capacity.

I am also privileged to have been selected onto the committee established by the Board of Nursing and Midwifery to facilitate the updating and changing of coursework to account for changes in the nursing field.

For me, the University of Southampton encompasses a commitment to teaching in a scientific fashion, grounded in sound research efficiency, as well as building an academic reputation based on internationalisation and employability of its graduates.

The programme’s broad content was a major factor in my decision to pursue a place here. The assessment methods used, feedback gained and level of support at every stage of the learning process reinforced Southampton’s commitment to producing skilled and trained individuals irrespective of cultural boundaries.

The Hartley Library was a facility in its own class. I enjoyed every aspect of it from the interaction with support staff to the Delphi software which made my evidence-based dissertation project a remarkable success.

In addition to a better education, my stay here has had a huge impact on the quality of my life, tremendously improving my cognitive and intellectual skills, elevating my self-esteem and positively changing my pier relationships; in attitude and values, and moral development.

After completing my service to my home Government for the award provided to me for my masters; my long term aim is to continue my quest to undertake a doctoral programme in advanced practice.
