Dr Nelufa Tehera Rahman MSc Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care, December 2013
MSc student, Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme
Hi, I'm Dr Nelufa Tehera Rahman and I studied MSc Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care within Health Sciences at the University of Southampton.
This University has given me the opportunity to flourish and accumulate the knowledge I need to take back to my home country, Bangladesh, and make a substantial difference.
I chose the University of Southampton for the prestige it presented as a member of The Russell Group and because it offered me the opportunity to study in my chosen area.
This MSc has really enriched my critical thinking and decision making skills and it is also teaching me a huge amount about the importance of strategy within leadership and management.
There is far more independent learning here than I've experienced in my home country which has helped in building my skills quickly and more autonomously.
The IT infrastructure here is also excellent and I can access all the materials I need to further my studies. It's a very different system in Bangladesh. I particularly like the University's Hartley Library and often spend my free time there.
After my arrival here I received an incredibly warm welcome from my award leader and mentor, Dr Richard Giordano, and have felt fully supported at every step.
The process of integration has been incredibly smooth. I really haven't had to worry about anything which has really helped reduce any anxiety I may have had.
After completing my studies here I intend to continue as a physician in my home country, combining clinical and preventative roles, and using the expertise I've gained here to influence and improve health and social care in Bangladesh.
