Research project: Urinary catheter ‘fill and flush’ valve: safety, effectiveness, acceptability and feasibility trial

Currently Active:
Yes

Indwelling urinary catheters are widely used medical devices that are associated with many problems including urinary tract infection. In the Bladder and Bowel Management Group, our objective is to undertake a ‘first in human trial’ of a novel urinary catheter valve aimed at reducing infection.

A novel urinary catheter valve has been developed with the purpose of allowing the bladder to fill and automatically intermittently empty. The valve has been tested in the laboratory and will now be tested for usability and acceptability with long term catheter users.
