Research project: How do nurses use new technologies to inform decision making?

Currently Active:

New technologies are increasingly being introduced into the NHS and nurses are using computerised decision support systems (CDSS) in a variety of contexts

Main question(s)

  • How does decision making supported by CDSS differ from unsupported decision making?
  • What is the evidence that outcomes of technology supported decisions are better?
  • What education and training do nurses need to use new technologies in practice?
  • What are the characteristics of technologies, organisations, individuals and decisions most likely to increase use of new technologies in the future?

Mixed methods study including systematic review of the literature, national survey of NHS Trusts in England and four detailed case studies of CDSS in use in practice settings
