Catherine joined the University of Southampton in April 2014 as a Senior Research Fellow working in the Centre for Innovation and Leadership in Healthcare on a multi-site and multi-methods intervention to raise patients’ awareness of the consequences of potential treatment options and the promotion of patient decision aids.

Research and evaluation are arguably the most important elements in mapping a route towards an improved healthcare system.

Catherine had previously led research projects on preparedness for practice and upskilling of medical and healthcare professionals. Catherine has also been involved in research and evaluation projects for the International Labour Office [ILO], Northampton County Council, Ann E Casey Foundation, SkillShare International, the UK Foundation Programme Office, the East Midlands Healthcare Workforce Deanery and Health Education England East Midlands.

Since moving to the Centre for Implementation Science in August 2015, Catherine has both led and supported independent evaluations of respiratory Quality Improvement [QI] projects and Wessex Vanguard New Care Models [Dorset, Isle of Wight, South Hampshire and North East Hampshire and Farnham] as well as projects in Primary Care, Healthy Ageing and Mental Health.

Catherine has been leading in independent evaluations of innovations (One Dorset Pathology, Wessex Memory Box Project, Atrial Fibrillation, e-Consults, MymHealth) as well as supporting projects in Healthy Aging, Mental Health and Medicine Optimisation.

Catherine’s specialist areas are mixed and qualitative research methods, sociological, educational and QI theories and models, advising medical and healthcare professionals about strategies for implementation and evaluation of innovations, including digital healthcare innovations.
