Rianna Price BSc Podiatry 2018

Hi, I am Rianna Price and I'm currently studying Podiatry at the University of Southampton.
The University is the only Russell-group university for the course of Podiatry, and therefore I only ever wanted to come here! From the open day, I fell in love with the campus and the whole life around the city.
Why did choose to come and study at Southampton?
The university is the only Russell Group university for the course of Podiatry, and therefore I only ever wanted to come here! From the open day, I fell in love with the campus and the whole life around the city.
What is it like studying here?
I love studying at the university, the campus atmosphere is so inspiring, whether in the café or Hartley library, students are putting in the hours working and socialising at the same time. The lecturers in podiatry are inspiring, they have the best knowledge in their specialist fields – generating a vast insight into podiatry. They really do know everything and more.
How do you rate study facilities at the University?
As this is a campus university it is such a better environment for both studying and sports. Every day I am in the gym or the pool after lectures, with it being a maximum of a two minute walk to the sports centre from any lecture room on Highfield campus.
What have been your Southampton ‘highlights’ so far?
Placements have shown me the real clinical side to my degree, allowing me to put everything I have learnt into practice.
SUNC (Southampton University Netball Club) has made my time at university so far. Playing for the firsts and playing a high level of netball, with what are some of my best friends here at university has honestly been a privilege. Joining a society of your interest is a must!
How has your time at Southampton helped you to grow as a person?
I have grown a lot in subject knowledge and academic ability since being at the University!
What are you enjoying most about your course?
The ability to grow from day-to-day, generating more knowledge in all the vast areas of podiatry.
Do you have the opportunity to study modules outside of your core subject area?
As podiatry is such a vast field, extra abilities when dealing with patients such as motivational discussions and education is key. Modules with psychologists, such as the motivational interviewing module, has given me more insight into the way people think and allowed me to be more efficient with information giving whilst on placement.
Did you stay in University accommodation?
Yes, in first year I stayed in Glen Eyre halls, it was very good to be in an environment with other people in the same situation as you.
What is the city of Southampton like to live in?
The night life is brilliant, however still safe for all. The city has many community events, such as the ABP marathon, which really joins the city together and is one of my highlights so far whilst being at university.
What one word sums up how you feel about your experiences so far at Southampton?
