Bosworth on the BBC
Professor Anne Curry, Dean of Humanities, will be a guest on the BBC Radio Four programme In Our Time at 9.00am on Thursday 26 April.
She will discuss the Battle of Bosworth of 1485 with presenter Melvyn Bragg and colleagues from the Universities of Oxford and Kent and expects to speak about the role of armies during the Wars of the Roses. The battle was won by the Lancastrians, under Henry Tudor who was to become King Henry VII; his opponent, Richard III was killed during the fight.
“Bosworth is the only battle that people remember from the Wars of the Roses,” explains Anne. “Henry VII was a great propagandist and made sure the story lived on. It was important politically as the only contender for the throne was killed. You could call it the first celebrity battle.”
This will be Anne’s third appearance on the popular radio programme.

I was principal investigator on a major AHRC project which led to the creation of an on-line database of soldiers serving between 1369 and 1453 ( medievalsoldier.org ).
