Speaker information
Dr Rémy Ambühl ,a lecturer in medieval history at the University of Southampton. He is author of Prisoners of War in the Hundred Years War: Ransom Culture in the Late Middle Ages (Cambridge University Press, 2013), which examined the practice of ransoming. Based on extensive archival research, the book tests customs, laws and theory against the individual experiences of captors and prisoners during the Hundred Years War, to evoke their world in all its complexity. His current project, supported by the Leverhulme Trust, is on the importance of negotiation in capitulation and surrender in 15th-century warfare.
