Rothenstein Mural

The comments made on Twitter by the Students’ Union President regarding the Rothenstein Mural are not shared by the University of Southampton and do not represent the views of the University community.

The University has a long history of supporting free speech and remains committed to its legal obligation to ensure that freedom of speech within the law is secured for all individual students, staff and visiting speakers.

As the Students’ Union is an independent body, its views and those of the Union President may not be the same as those of the University, as evidenced by the recent comments made on Twitter by the Students’ Union President regarding the Rothenstein Mural which were clearly her own.

The Students’ Union is now following its own democratic process regarding this matter.

The University is working closely with the Students’ Union to provide the necessary support to students and staff at this time.
