Southampton tops university rankings for Physiotherapy for the second year

The University of Southampton has ranked number one in the UK for Physiotherapy for the second successive year in the latest Complete University Guide.

The 2021 version of the Guide, published online, ranked Southampton 17th overall amongst 130 UK universities listed.

In addition to being first overall for Physiotherapy, the University ranked first in the subject for research quality and research intensity as well as being joint first for graduate prospects.

Dr Ruth Turk, Physiotherapy Programme Manager in the School of Health Sciences said, “We are really pleased that our efforts in teaching and research have enabled us to retain our position as UK number one in Physiotherapy.  This reflects the hard work by the whole team and their dedication to continually improve our programme and student experience.

Dr Julian Pearce, Head of Department for Allied Health Professions added: “I am delighted to see that Physiotherapy at the University of Southampton has maintained its number one position. This is testament to the hard work and innovation of the team in both education and research while continuing to listen carefully to the student voice.”

Southampton also ranked in the Complete University Guide’s top five for Aural & Oral Sciences (2nd), Occupational Therapy (2nd), Electrical & Electronic Engineering (4th) and Music (5th).

A further 10 subjects make the top 10, including Nursing (6th), Civil Engineering (6th), Marketing (7th), Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering (7th), Anatomy & Physiology (7th), French (8th), Iberian Languages (8th), German (8th), Geology (10th), and Mechanical Engineering (10th).
