QS World University Rankings
The University of Southampton has ranked 78th in the QS World University Rankings 2023.
This ranking is down just one place from 2022 when the University climbed 13 places from 90th to 77th. It remains 12 places above its 2021 position and reaffirms Southampton's global status in the top 100.
University of Southampton President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith said: “I’m delighted with the consolidation of our position in the top 80 universities in the world and would like to thank everyone for their dedication and commitment that is integral to our success. There is now a real sense of us being embedded as a top 100 world university”
The QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) rankings are based on a range of indicators that focus on excellence in teaching and research, the reputation of universities amongst employers and fellow academics, and the international mix of students and staff.
Two new metrics have been added this year: Employment Outcomes, which reflects the employability of graduates; and International Research Network, which assesses the ability and efficiency of institutions to diversify their research partnerships. Whilst both these were unweighted this year, they will become weighted indicators in the next QS rankings assessment.
Earlier this year, the University placed six subjects amongst the top 50 in the world in the latest QS World Rankings by Subject, led by Nursing at 10th overall for the sixth successive year.
