I definitively would recommend the University of Southampton, because I think it provides excellent academic opportunities in well recognised research groups. On the other hand, the University provides good support for students in different aspects of academic life. Additionally it is great how friends form other nationalities learn more about my own country and I have the same opportunity of learning about them.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Southampton?

The University is well positioned at international rankings and it has an agreement with the government of my country.  I had the opportunity to meet one representative from the University in one Postgraduate Fair in Cali 2014 (Professor David Wilson). He helped me to know more about the University, the life in Southampton and put me in contact with some students from Colombia, this definitively helped me to make my decision

What were your first impressions of the University of Southampton?

I arrived in the summer 2014 and it was quite warm. I enjoyed that very much. I liked very much that we received a small package with some chips and juice in our accommodation (Wessex Lane) and that made me feel welcomed. The people from meet and greet were very friendly and helpful. The city was quieter that I expected but I enjoy that it is quite green.

What do you enjoy the most about living in Southampton?

I love the green spaces and the variety of international food. It brings an excellent opportunity to explore a little bit different cultures.

What is your favourite spot on campus?

Valley Gardens

What has been your proudest accomplishment while you were in Southampton?

It was quite challenging for me to feel confident with the language, but I have presented the results of my project in different events in both the University and other institutions, which has helped me to gain more confidence about my work and speaking skills.

Would you recommend the University of Southampton to students from your home country?

I definitively would recommend the University of Southampton, because I think it provides excellent academic opportunities in well recognised research groups. On the other hand, the University provides good support for students in different aspects of academic life.

What will you do with your degree after you have finished your studies?

My degree will help me to access to better academic jobs in my home country and internationally as well.

Do you have any stories about your time in Southampton or a happy memory you want to share?

The Colombian community has been increasing in the University which is very enjoyable for me, in terms of celebrating common festivities, sharing culture and experiences. Additionally it is great how friends form other nationalities learn more about my own country and I have the same opportunity of learning about them.
