I really like the global community here. As an international student I felt welcomed by the staff and engaged by all the extra-curricular clubs and societies.

When I was exploring which university to apply to I researched online about the best places to study around the world and University of Southampton came highly recommended! So I investigated a bit more and found out about the world class opportunities that Southampton provides for its students.

Supportive environment

Physics is an amazing subject to study. It creates new applications of the laws that govern the universe, by understanding the way things work and connect to each other. I love that I can apply everything I learn in my lectures in the labs - I think that Southampton excels in providing the students with facilities necessary to practise what they learn in lectures. I didn’t do any labs in high school so it gives me the opportunity to see the world from another perspective and to test its mechanisms. The teaching at Southampton is excellent and the lecturers are really friendly, creating a very supportive environment. They encourage us to ask questions and stimulate our curiosity by providing background information for every concept taught. Most lecturers have their own field of research so everything we learn is explained in a practical way or linked to an everyday example.

Nanotechnology research

Nanotechnology is a developing area in physics that can have a real impact on medicine as it is practised today. Nanotechnology is already being used to solve problems like cancer and paralysis due to spinal cord injury using purpose designed nanomaterial to help paralysed patients regain the ability to move.
I like to think of myself as a curious person so in the future I am hoping to be involved in a research team. Studying nanotechnology will help me understand how this curiosity can help find life-saving discoveries or make a real difference in the world. My ambition is to help find ways of dealing with diseases and to be part of a revolution in the medical methods we have today.
