University of Southampton has put in my head a keep moving forward mind-set and to strive to make a change in the world we are living in.

I started by studying an MSc in Sound and Vibration at the University of Southampton. Soon, I found myself involved in an ocean of assignments and hard deadlines, but at the same time I was introduced to a varied and fulfilling international community of classmates that made my MSc year a very enjoyable experience. I was fortunate enough to work with Professor Stephen Elliot, who is a world-class expert in digital signal processing for acoustics, and who taught me how to tackle and solve engineering problems. Keeping up with the deadlines was worth it, and thanks to the results of my MSc project, I was offered an opportunity to do a PhD at the university. Doing a PhD was a long road, during which I continued to train myself as a scientist and at the same time, I had the opportunity to meet very interesting people and to work in my personal development. I graduated from my PhD with an award for excellence in research, and the following year I started working in a postdoc program about Spatial Audio in collaboration with the BBC. This program is now almost finished, and as an outcome I have been named the co-founder and director of a University of Southampton spinout company that aims to commercialise the research that resulted from my postdoc and, as its motto says: to help to improve people’s lives through immersive 3D audio. Thanks to all the above mentioned, the University of Southampton has put in my head a keep moving forward mind-set and to strive to make a change in the world we are living in.
