Concordat to support the career development of researchers

The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers is an important national document that details the expectations and responsibilities of researchers, their managers, employers and funders.

It contains three key principles and aligns with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for their Recruitment.

The University became a signatory to the 2019 revised Concordat in November 2020 and has established 5 working groups to review the following areas:

These groups will make their recommendations in 2022, enabling us to implement the three principles throughout the institution.

For details of what the University is doing for the Concordat, please visit the Concordat website.

Did you know the University has been recognised for HR Excellence in Research?

The University of Southampton has been successful in gaining the European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award (HREiR).  We first achieved the HREiR award in 2012.

A UK-wide process, incorporating the QAA Code of Practice for Research Degree Programmes and the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, enables institutions to gain the European Commission’s ‘HR excellence in research’ badge, acknowledging alignment with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for their Recruitment.
