UCAS is the organisation that centrally manages the 300 course providers with around 100,000 courses across the UK. UK students use this company to decide where to study and then to submit their applications. For more information please see UCAS. UCAS is the organisation that passes A-level results to Southampton University and as such the University can confirm offers if the conditions have been met.

The University has an Early Years Centre open to children aged from 3 months to 5 years. This is open between 8am to 6pm. The centre follows the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which has a strong emphasis on learning through play. The centre offers your child support and encouragement from highly trained and experienced staff. For more information please see the Early Years website.
As a member of staff at the University of Southampton you can receive childcare vouchers. If you choose to join, you can start to receive childcare vouchers in exchange for part of your gross salary. The law states that children must get an education between the school term after their 5th birthday and the last Friday in June in the school year they turn 16. If your child does not attend school you can be prosecuted. For more information and times when your child can miss school please see GOV.UK.
Primary School: After nursery school or a crèche (like the Early Years Centre) primary school runs from ages 4/5 to 11 years. Please remember that according to where you live will determine what primary school your child is allocated too. Secondary School: This is for children aged 11 to 16 years and is compulsory. Typically 14-16 years old complete their GCSEs which are the prerequisite for A levels. To apply for a state school please see GOV.UK.

From ages 16 to 18 your child may complete A levels if they wish. These are the qualifications required by Universities for entrance onto an undergraduate degree programme.

Typically new undergraduate students live away from home in specially allocated halls of residence. Unless the students are international then typically they would have followed the national curriculum, please see the Department for Education Schools for more information.
There are also mature students who choose to study at the University. There are a number of reasons for this, for example career progression etc.
It is likely the students will each have their own set of expectations and a wide range of abilities in the subject. However there are minimum requirements for students to be accepted on a course for each of the subjects at the University.
