Managing sickness absence

The University aims to encourage all staff to maximise their attendance at work while recognising that you will be unable to attend from time-to-time due to sickness.

Frequent and persistent absence can place an additional burden of work on colleagues and damage efficiency and productivity. Our policies and procedures are therefore designed to strike a reasonable balance between the needs of both the business and our staff. They aim to ensure that if you are absent from work due to ill-health or injury you are treated fairly and sympathetically and receive support towards a full recovery. They also enable consistent, fair and effective monitoring and management of absence.
