Non-confirmation of probation

A probation period is a trial period for a new member of staff. It allows both you and your line manager to assess objectively whether or not you are suitable for the role, taking into account your overall capability, skills, performance and general conduct in relation to the job in question.

If after an acceptable period the probationer's performance is unsatisfactory, and it is clear that further training or support is unlikely to alter the situation, termination of the employment will be the next step.

Our procedures detailed on the Probation webpage provide a fair and consistent way of dealing with this situation.
