Research interests
Research interests include socio-cultural and linguistic aspects of migration as well as cultural representations of migrants in the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking worlds.
Current research projects
I am currently piloting a research project on the memories of the Spanish democratic transition, using oral history interviews amongst Spanish women of different generations. The aim of this project is to compare different perceptions of social and political change.
In collaboration with Jaine Beswick, I have recently been awarded a University of Southampton Faculty of Humanities Small Award for Inter-disciplinary Research, for an on-going project entitled ‘Migrant Identities and Linguistic Practices: A Comparative Study of UK South Coast Spanish and Portuguese Communities’.
Following an Adventures in Research Award from the University of Southampton I am establishing in collaboration with
Dr Scott Soo
a research project that will focus on the experiences and memories of return migration of Spaniards from the UK and France during the Spanish democratic transition.
