Dr Dan Cavedon-Taylor's photo

Dan is a Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Southampton.

He has previously been a Lecturer in Philosophy at Brasenose College, Oxford and the University of St Andrews. He has also been a Research Fellow at the Centre for Philosophical Psychology at the University of Antwerp.

Dan is the current Treasurer of the British Society of Aesthetics.

Research interests

Dan works on topics in the philosophy of mind and aesthetics, but also has interests in epistemology, metaphysics and ethics.

His most recent publications in the philosophy of mind have been on some of our non-visual senses (olfaction and touch), the perception of absences and the perception of high-level properties.

In aesthetics, his work has primarily focussed on issues concerning visual art, including the epistemic value of depiction and the nature of pictorial experience. More recently, he has begun work on a project about the nature of aesthetic value, judgment and expertise.
