Dr David Dunn is Emeritus Fellow in Film, and Public Orator at the University of Southampton.

I studied International Relations at Keele University, then Soviet Studies at Carleton (Ottawa) and Surrey Universities, before researching a PhD on Bernard Shaw at the London School of Economics.

In 1986, I began teaching full-time: history, politics and film.

I have held a number of senior positions in universities, including Head of History, Head of Politics, and Dean. Between 1998-2003, I was an Assistant Director of one of the Faculties of Southampton University. I was also Programme Coordinator of the BA (Hons) Media and Political Communication.

In 2005 I co-organised the first conference of the Political Marketing Group in London, supported by the Political Studies Association, the British Academy, and industrial sponsorship. From 1996-2008, I was Treasurer of the British International History Group (under the auspices of the British International Studies Association).

I am a performance poet (http://daviddunnpoet.wordpress.com/ ), and my poetry has been published in a number of journals. I also write plays and musicals.

Research interests

My research interests focus on the politics of popular culture, and creative writing in various forms, for example screen- and tele-plays, musicals and poetry.
