Ms Laurence Georgin is a Senior Academic Coordinator, LLAS in Modern Languages at the University of Southampton.

After finishing her MA in English language at the University of Nancy, France in 2002, Laurence has worked in a variety of environments including teaching, project management and Higher Education management. She currently manages the Southampton Feedback Champions project which aims to discover and share good practice in the delivery and use of feedback by staff and students at the University of Southampton.

Laurence has a DEUG in French literature, a licence in English language and civilisation and a maîtrise in English language (incl. English literature, civilization, linguistics, grammar and translation) with a specialization in Canadian literature (title of the thesis: “Homelessness in No Fixed Address, Places far from Ellesmere and Restlessness by Aritha van Herk”) from the Université de Nancy 2, France. She recently completed a Master 2 at the Université Paul-Valéry, Montpellier 3, in which she explored the concepts of travel, gender and discourse in narratives by women who travelled to the Canadian North at the beginning of the 20th century (title of thesis: “Queering the Canadian North”).

Before joining the University in 2006, she worked in a variety of environments including teaching, project management and Higher Education management. She joined the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (now the LLAS Centre, an enterprise unit with Modern Languages) in 2009 as Assistant Programme Manager of the Links into Languages programme funded by the DfE. Her current role at LLAS is to support the development of the Centre’s activities. She currently manages the Southampton Feedback Champions project which aims to discover and share good practice in the delivery and use of feedback by staff and students at the University of Southampton. She also manages the University of Southampton input in the European project, COLISEE, which is led by the Université de Montpellier 1 and which aims to create a joint European Master’s degree. Previously, she managed projects such as SPEAQ, which was a European project promoting a bottom-up approach to enhancing quality in Higher Education. She also contributed to other projects such as HELLO, iTunes and You and OpenLIVES.

As part of LLAS, Laurence is also involved in Modern Languages’ wider enterprise activities and is working closely with her colleague Kate Borthwick to develop a collaboration between the University of Southampton and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Bhopal, India. She has taught for the last two years on the curriculum innovation module ‘Sustainability in the Local and Global Environment’ coordinated by Simon Kemp, Principal Teaching Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment. She will coordinate a new humanities-focussed curriculum innovation module in the 2015-2016 academic year.
