Lecturer

Ms Paola Visconti is a Lecturer in Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton.

After having studied in Italy and Spain, I completed my BA Honours degree at Southampton University in 1981. I then went on to do a MA in Spanish at Birkbeck College, and a PGCE at the University of Greenwich, London.  I have recently developed an interest in the world of cinema and in 2011 completed a MA in Film Studies.

Academic interests

My concerns are directly related to my teaching and coordinating duties, centred on ensuring that all students and tutors of Italian feel encouraged and able to make progress in an environment that provides positive feedback and constructive support.

I have been focusing on the development of language learning and teaching strategies, designing course programmes, assignments and exams as well as finding ways of making e-learning useful to our teaching.

Because of my interest in film and its potential for catalysing language learning, I often incorporate cinema into teaching to facilitate the development of analytical skills as well as language skills amongst my students.

I have been involved in the teaching of languages at all levels for many years. I have taught EFL in Spain and Italy, GCSE and A Level Spanish and Italian in the UK, and I have been teaching Spanish and Italian on the part-time and full-time programmes at the University of Southampton since 1998. I currently teach and coordinate most stages of Italian on the full-time programme and each semester run a very popular Italian Film Season.
