Philosophy alumnus features on BBC Breakfast
Southampton graduate, Simon Nash, appeared on the BBC Breakfast Show this morning to discuss business start-ups during a job starved recession. This is not the first time Simon has featured on the programme, in early 2010 he was also interviewed as part of a theme on student start-up companies.
Simon (BA Philosophy and Politics 2006) set up Green Oil UK, a company that makes eco-friendly bicycle maintenance products, at the beginning of the recession, and the company was incorporated the same year that Lehman Brothers collapsed. Despite the economic downturn, the company has grown and thrived.
The company's eco-friendly ethos was reflected in its first premises: the businesses started out in an 'eco-cabin' (garden shed) with a small solar panel on the roof that powered a radio and bottling machinery for up to six hours in the summer. Green Oil UK now has a factory in Wales from which it supplies products to 150 bike shops across the UK.
