Modern Languages at the University of Southampton are pleased to announce that the Camoes Trust has generously renewed our cooperation agreement for a further three years, and once again has made available for a nine month postgraduate bursary commencing 1 September 2012 and valued at 500 euros per month towards maintenance costs (please note, this does not include fees).

The role of the Camoes Institute is the promotion and spread of Portuguese language and cultural studies. The bursary has been provided in return for the commitment of the University to support and enhance the status of Portuguese Studies in Modern Languages (European and African Portuguese) and to offer its students the means to improve their knowledge of the Portuguese language and of Portuguese cultural studies. The holder of the bursary will be required to undertake to help Portuguese Studies in the organisation of annual social and cultural events within the University.

Applications are sought from prospective postgraduate students interested in any aspect of Portuguese Studies. The successful candidate would be required to register for one of our research degrees within Modern Languages in the Faculty of Humanities (for further information on taught postgraduate degrees visit the Humanities website).

Please send initial expressions of interest by email to Dr Jaine Beswick (jb14@soton.ac.uk) by 4 pm on Friday 20 July. These should take the form of a brief outline of your research interests, a brief CV giving academic qualifications, and the name of one academic referee.
