The University of Southampton’s successful Prepare for Success website has been featured in a leading education internet newsletter after notching up half a million visits from prospective students.

Julie Watson, Head of eLanguages in Modern Languages told the Professionals in International Education (PIE) News that students from 214 different countries have looked at the site so far with the top four being the UK, China, India and USA in that order.

“This is our busiest time in the year for hits as international students around the world are getting ready to travel to the UK this autumn,” she says. “I’m delighted our website has been recognised in this way and hope it will encourage more people to have a look at this online learning resource.”

Prepare for Success was developed by eLanguages in the Faculty of Humanities in 2008 and backed by the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA). The free interactive website features helpful advice for newcomers to the UK education system along with language learning tips, all backed up with video and audio material and quizzes. In all, students can benefit from 18 hours of online learning material. Global social media such as YouTube, Twitter, Weibo and RenRen help to market and promote the site.

More than 200 universities and colleges encourage potential students to use the site and feedback from students and institutions has been very positive.
