Grant Success for Southampton Philosophers
Academics in Philosophy at Southampton, Dr Daniel Whiting, Dr Conor McHugh and Dr Jonathan Way have been awarded a national grant to support their two year project, ‘Normativity: Epistemic and Practical’.
The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Early Career Research Grant of £188,000 will help them explore how the norms which govern our behaviour and practical activities relate to the norms which govern our beliefs and intellectual inquiry. It will seek to understand how the questions ‘What should I do?’ and ‘What should I think?’, and our answers to those questions, bear on one another.
The team will foster collaborative research on these issues involving an international team of philosophers through a series of workshops and through the use of digital resources. It will conclude with a major international conference, as well as a Cultural Day aimed at sharing the results of the research with those outside academia.
The project will run from 2014-2016. More details to appear in due course.
