History student awarded prestigious scholarship to study in China

Second year History student Isabella Hunter-Fajardo will be spending her third year at Xiamen University in China after winning a prestigious scholarship from the Chinese government. She will study the Chinese language, history and culture, then return to Southampton for her final year.
Isabella is already learning the language as part of her degree at Southampton and was earlier chosen to visit Xiamen as part of a delegation of students; she has also spent a semester studying in Spain at the University of Seville.
Head of History at Southampton and Personal tutor to Isabella, Professor Sarah Pearce, says “Isabella has shown great determination with regard to developing her experience of studying in an international context. She is a dedicated and energetic student, involved in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities at a high level, including fencing and Ju Jitsu.”
Isabella is planning to write a blog of her experiences in China over the next academic year. Xiamen University is based in Fujian province on the southeast coast of China and is one of the world’s top 500 universities (Academic Ranking of World Universities).
