Recent and upcoming talks by Southampton philosophers

Published: 13 November 2015Origin: Philosophy

Southampton philosophers have been busy giving talks and other presentations, with several coming up in the next few weeks.

In late October, Denis McManus spent several days in Vienna, where he gave a talk on the idea of the unity of the world, and also participated in a seminar dedicated to his work on Heidegger's notion of authenticity.

Around the same time, Chris Janaway discussed Schopenhauer on 'Talking History', a show on the Irish radio station NewstalkFM.  A podcast of this program can be found here: https://www.newstalk.com/podcasts/Talking_History/Highlights_from_Talking_History/109665/.

Just a few days ago, our postgraduate student Sophie Keeling gave a talk at this year's Revista Teorema conference on Transparency in Belief and Self-Knowledge, which took place in Oviedo, Spain.

Fiona Woollard just returned from giving a talk on the demandingness objection to the Centre of Ethics, Law and Public Affairs at the University of Warwick.  She will be presenting the same paper at the Aristotelian Society on November 30th.

This coming week, Kurt Sylvan and Jonathan Way will both be giving talks at this year's European Normativity Network conference in Berlin.  Kurt will be talking about whether knowledge is normative, and Jonathan about the nature of creditworthiness.  Kurt will be giving the same paper in a few weeks at a conference on the normativity of attitudes in Saarbruecken, Germany, as well.
