Event details

Staff and graduates from the University’s Music Department continue to enrich Southampton’s music scene and Arts Council supported PLAYLIST are hosting two of our performers in their Summer in the Square event on Bank Holiday Monday.

Follow @SummerintheSq on Twitter for up to date information!

Following his exhilarating, specially-commissioned solo set at Flying Aubergine, Dan Mar-Molinero headlines PLAYLIST’s Summer event with another set for saxophone and electronics – no two performances are the same so be sure not to miss out, whether you are a regular PLAYLISTer or new to the PLAYLIST philosophy! Alongside his works as a jazz and pop lecturer at the University of Southampton, Dan has led and played in numerous ensembles, performing at many top venues and festivals in the UK and abroad. He has extensive experience of live and studio playing in both jazz and commercial music and has performed with many leading musicians from across various genres including Julian Joseph, Kenny Wheeler and Corrine Bailey-Rae.

Joining him are one of the Music Department’s original SHOWCASE artists, alternative folk trio Tenderlore (http://tenderlore.com/). Regular performers at festivals and folk clubs across the UK and Ireland, they have supported raucous folk rockers Mad Dog McCrea, 60s pop legends The Move, and acclaimed folk guitarist and singer Martin Simpson, and we’re delighted to host them again after their set at PLAYLIST’s launch last year!

There will also be another chance to hear oboist Katie Bennington, whose intimate performance of Benjamin Britten’s Six Metamorphoses after Ovid was the talk of the night at The Flying Aubergine last month.

Curated by a collective of Southampton-based professional musicians, PLAYLIST nights feature high quality music in amazing and unusual spaces around the city. Find them on Facebook and Twitter @soplaylist to keep up to date with their future projects and visit soplaylist.eventbrite.com for full details shortly. Come and hear the music we want to hear!

Please note that PLAYLIST is a new Arts Council supported initiative. If you wish to be kept up to date with future PLAYLIST concerts, please email L.L.Johnson@soton.ac.uk and your address will be passed on to the PLAYLIST team.
