Launch of a new science and literature initiative

This week sees the launch of Litmus, a new science and literature initiative led by Peter Middleton, and jointly organised by Will May and the University's Research and Innovation Services.

The project, taking Peter Middleton's research into science and poetry as its starting point, pairs creative writing students with graduate research scientists working at Southampton. The writers will explore the work of the scientists, and create a poem or short piece of prose responding to their research.

Students taking part in the project will attend workshops led by Peter Middleton, the poet Allen Fisher, and the novelist and epidemiologist Sunetra Gupta. They will receive further mentoring from our Royal Literary Fund Fellow Robyn Bolam, who will be writing a poem that reponds to the work of Southampton's research scientists.

The finished works will be presented on  Thursday 9th February 2012 as part of Multidisciplinary Research Week.
