Words by Thomas Hardy

Ranging from the regretful "So I have fared" to the dramatic "The Clock of the Years" and of course to the raucous "Rollicum-Rorum", the sheer diversity in moods between songs come across not just from the text, but Finzi has managed to entwine such emotions into the vocal line and accompaniment, creating a vibrant unity between the two.
