'Prisons and the Protection of Human Rights'

Dame Anne Owers, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons 2001-2010, will speak at the second Human Rights Lecture.

This lecture will deal with why human rights in closed environments such as prisons are important, and are protected in both international and national standards.  It will look at the practical mechanisms that exist, inside and outside the prison system, to monitor and protect them, and the broad findings of inspections and reviews.

There will be an end of lecture collection for Amnesty International.

Tea and coffee will be provided in the North Corridor before the lecture at 5:30pm, the lecture begins at 6pm and will be followed by a drink reception until 8pm..

 

This lecture is sponsored jointly by the Faculties of Humanities and Business & Law, and the Southampton Group of Amnesty International.
