Event details

Four exciting young exponents of contemporary classical music perform a portrait concert, featuring recent works by composer George Holloway.

George Holloway

Soprano Danae Eleni Pallikaropoulos sings an a capella setting of Lorca's sensual "madrigal" Ondas, and joins forces with the composer at the piano in the first complete performance of his song cycle Bird Songs.

George's interest in writing for strings is reflected in performances of works for viola, violin and guitar. Violist Richard Jones, of the Ligeti quartet, gives the premiere of the delicate and enigmatic work, Hua Yang Nian Hua, which takes its title from the Chinese name of Wong Ka Wai's film In the Mood for Love. Aisha Orazbayeva performs the technically intricate For No One, To No One in its two alternative versions, and with George at the keyboard takes on the rhythmic challenges of the Two Pieces for Violin and Piano. University alumnus Sam Cave brings to Southampton the microtonal Guitar Sonata, which after its premiere last year in the Forge, Camden, Strad Magazine described as "noteworthy".
