Born into a family of musicians, Rob Pemberton got off to a good start in secondary school, where he started playing in funk and soul bands at a young age. He also kept up classical study on piano and kept his mind as open as possible to all new futuristic sounds emerging from the underground world of electronic dance music. Once at university, jazz became his mainstay. He has since been honing his craft, as principle drummer in the University big band and proving to be in demand by many Southampton musicians, especially his course mates. Tuesday evening’s set at the Talking Heads shall be the culmination of three years of hard work, furious listening and musical discovery. He’ll be playing with some of the best musical friends he has met over the past three years - it is sure to be an emotional farewell to student life and shall hopefully give him a boost into the world of the professional musician.
