Event details

The University of Southampton and MeXsu invite you to Mexico Week. Between 29 October to 4 November the University will be inviting colleagues and friends across the City to celebrate our Mexico Week with us.

This week-long programme of events is hosted by the University's Centre for Mexico-Southampton Collaboration (MeXsu) to promote and share contemporary Mexican artistic, cultural and social activities.  We are being joined by a range of Southampton cultural venues who will be staging events, including the Turner Sims, The Nuffield Theatre and the Harbour Lights Picturehouse.

We will be offering events from theatre productions, classical and popular music, mariachis bands, lectures on Mexico, films by Mexican directors, Mexican food and drink, and opportunities to practise your (Mexican) Spanish.  We aim to involve as wide a range as possible of Southampton residents, old and young. The timing of this week coincides with the well-known Mexican celebrations of the Day of the Dead, for which there will be an Altar set up at the Avenue Campus.  Programmes and information about the whole week will be available from early September.

We are honoured to have His Excellency Eduardo Medina-Moro Icaza, Ambassador of Mexico in the United Kingdom, to launch Mexico Week at a reception on 29th October.

Directly before the launch you will be able to attend a free lunchtime concert by Elena Duran at the Turner Sims then following the formal launch there will be an opportunity to see a production of the Mexican play Juana in a Million at the Nuffield Theatre Studio.

This series of events are made possible by sponsorship from The Anglo Mexican Foundation, Conaculta, Santander Univerities and British Airways.
