Event details

Jazz singer/songwriter Joe returns to Turner Sims following his recent number 1 success in the Amazon Jazz chart

Joe is one of the world's finest singer-pianists, touring constantly with his band and as a solo act, having appeared at Ronnie Scott's, the Royal Festival Hall, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Barbican, The London Jazz Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Henley Festival, Barbados Festival, Sardinia Jazz Festival, Sicily Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Dubai Jazz Festival and in jazz clubs from New York to Berlin to Kuala Lumpur. Last summer he made his solo debut at the Edinburgh Fringe where his show One Hour! was a sell-out and garnered much critical acclaim (5 stars in The Scotsman).

This year he released his second album - 'We Look To The Stars', which immediately went straight to the top of the jazz charts while garnering rave reviews from the national press. Joe says of the album: “It’s much more punchy, reflecting my early taste for Jerry Lee Lewis and Fats Waller, through to Billy Joel, Elton John, Brian Wilson and Harry Connick Jr. At the same time I’ve had the chance to listen to some amazing music, people like Elbow, Bon Iver, Laura Marling and Adele, which all seeped in to the process somehow. I’ve been writing a ton of songs, and though not kicking jazz away, I’m using that great feel from jazz and swing records and hopefully updating my sound.” Recorded by Grammy-nominated producer and engineer James McMillan in his seaside Hastings studio, Joe’s new album looks to set to win a whole new legion of fans and already he has picked up some notable support from Chris Evans, Christian Louboutin and Sir Michael Parkinson. With a recently signed publishing contract with the legendary Kassner Music, 2012 could prove to be a very exciting year.

As a sought after cabaret act for private, charity and corporate events he regularly performs at the most exclusive events for a clientele as diverse as Madonna, Mark Ronson, Prince Edward, Sir John Major and Tom Ford. Joe has worked extensively on radio, appearing on the Now Show and The Horne Section for Radio 4, and has been a contributor and special guest with Richard Madeley, Alan Carr, Michael Parkinson and numerous other Radio 2 programmes including Friday Night Is Music Night. Joe writes songs for many other artists, and gives masterclasses across the country in performance and improvisation. He is a founding member of the hit comedy show ‘The Horne Section’ whose first series on Radio 4 was heard in early 2012.
