An introduction to Chinese Opera, as part of our Festival of Song

As part of the MH Culture Ltd Peking Opera UK Tour, we are delighted to welcome Tianjin Municipal New Generation Peking Opera Troupe who will bring traditional Chinese theatre (combining music, vocal performance, mime, dance and acrobatics) to Turner Sims and contribute to the University of Southampton Music Department's Festival of Song running between 20 and 28 April.

Tianjin Municipal Youth Peking Opera is a professional and award winning Peking Opera troupe, founded in 1984, which has developed its own style within the tradition and is regularly touring in China and abroad. Full details on the troupe are available at http://www.pekingopera.co.uk

The troupe will first introduce the Beijing Opera genre in this free workshop open to all musicians, music lovers and curious people. They will then be performing traditional Chinese Opera as part of our free lunchtime concert series at 1pm in Turner Sims.

Free admission

The Southampton event within the tour is sponsored by Yau Brothers & Company Limited, Chinese Arts Southampton and the Southampton Confucius Institute.
