Event details

A special open lecture on female popular musicians

Lucy O'Brien is an esteemed rock journalist who has written for NME, Q, MOJO, Spare Rib, the Guardian, the Independent, and many other journals. She has written three best-selling biographies of female musicians – Dusty Springfield, Annie Lennox, and Madonna – and her comprehensive history of women in popular music, She Bop: The Definitive History of Women in Rock, Pop and Soul, is now in its third edition.

O'Brien will be speaking about the recent past, present, and future of female popular musicians as the final session of MUSI2088/3090 Flappers to Rappers: Girl Singers in Popular Music. Attendance is compulsory for students on the module, but all students and staff are welcome at the lecture – it promises to be a lively discussion, and an inspiring way to start 2014!
