, and many other journals. She has written three best-selling biographies of female musicians – Dusty Springfield, Annie Lennox, and Madonna – and her comprehensive history of women in popular music,
She Bop: The Definitive History of Women in Rock, Pop and Soul
, is now in its third edition.
O'Brien will be speaking about the recent past, present, and future of female popular musicians as the final session of MUSI2088/3090
Flappers to Rappers: Girl Singers in Popular Music.
Attendance is compulsory for students on the module, but all students and staff are welcome at the lecture – it promises to be a lively discussion, and an inspiring way to start 2014!
