Event details

A career management day for PG researchers from all disciplines.

This half-day event will help you to develop your career management skills, reflect on your career aspirations and review/build your career plan - through a mixture of presentations, panel-led discussions and interactive workshops.

Themes will include:

  • What my doctorate should do for me
  • What are employers looking for? (both within and outside academia)
  • Insights into application, selection and interview processess (both within and outside academia)
  • What am I good at and what do I want (from a job)?
  • Guidance on approaches and expectations within discipline groupings
  • Signposting to additional support and resources, and potential 'next steps'
  • Insights from Southammpton doctoral alumni, postdoctoral and academic staff based on their own career stories
  • Opportunities for informal networking

This event will be useful to you, whatever stage you have reached within your doctorate and career planning.

We are delighted that Dr Chris Humphrey from Jobs on Toast will be contributing to our plenary and workshop sessions.  Chris is 'living proof that you can have a PhD in a very specialised area (Medieval Studies) and still go on to have a great career doing jobs you love outside of academia'.

Full programme details, including workshop choices and speakers/presenters are available here.
