To inaugurate the baby grand in the Nuffield Bar, Andy Fisher will play his own inimitable versions of Gershwin, and accompany Lizzie Rogers in his own songs. David Owen Norris will play music by the first English jazz pianist, Billy Mayerl, who was ‘discovered’ around 1920, playing in a Southampton cinema. He’d learned the new style from the musicians on the trans-Atlantic liners. If you only know Autumn Crocus or Marigold come and surprise yourself.
