American trumpeter Rocky Winslow joins jazz ensemble, The Carrasco Ensemble, for our final professional concert this academic year (workshop preceeds this concert)

The Carrasco Ensemble is a forward thinking group dedicated to performing new and original compositions led by American drummer, Ted Carrasco. The ensemble performs intricate material by members of the band in addition to contemporary Jazz composers. These international innovators have performed together for the past six years to date, playing nationwide in various jazz clubs and concert venues. The energy of the material combined with the virtuosic skill of the players forges together an exciting ensemble.

Rocky Winslow

Rocky Winslow, trumpet
Rocky Winslow has been the Director of Jazz Studies at California State University, Chico since 2002. Professor Winslow received his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Jazz Studies from the University Of North Texas where he was a featured soloist with the renowned One O'clock Lab Band, recording five CDs, one a Grammy Award winner. In 1991, after North Texas, Rocky took a job as the Director Of Jazz Studies at the University Of Nevada Las Vegas. In addition to his experiences as a Professor, Rocky is also a Yamaha Artist and Clinician, appearing regularly at high schools and universities around the country. He has served as the all-state guest conductor and a trumpet clinician for Music Education Associations in Texas, Nevada, California, Arkansas, Hawaii, Australia, Japan, and Scotland. As a performer, Rocky has shared the stage, recorded, and toured with artists such as Maynard Ferguson, Tony Bennett, Jimmy Heath, Vincent Falcone Orchestra, Chaka Khan, Peabo Bryson, The Temptations, Don Menza Big Band, Natalie Cole, Drew Carey, Paul Anka, The Four Tops, Bob Newhart, Frankie Valli, and many others. Rocky's last two CD recordings, both on Troppe Note Records, "Simple Complications, and "Out of the Blue" feature many of his original compositions and boast some terrific side men including former members of the famed Bill Evans trio, Eddie Gomez and Elliot Zigmund.

Ted Carrasco, drums
Coming from a family of musicians, Ted Carrasco began playing the drums at the age of 3, and performing his first gigs aged 10. He gained his degree at California State University, Chico and his vibrant career has led to performances in the United States, Japan and all over Europe. He has recently performed concerts with U.K. Jazz legends Pete King, Jim Mullen, Bobby Wellins, Tina May and many others. In addition to managing the Southampton Modern Jazz club, he works as a drum instructor and ensemble director at the University of Southampton, Peter Symonds College, Wyvern Technology College, West Hill Park and The Stroud School. He is in great demand as a session musician and performer in the UK. In addition to his education work, he also maintains a heavy performance schedule with "The Baker Brothers" whose upcoming 2014 release "Hear No Evil" will take him on a world tour.
