Event details

The last Arts Council supported PLAYLIST concert of 2017 showcases three Music Department connections at Bitterne Park’s The Butcher’s Hook Alehouse, a small micro-brewery.

UPDATE: This event is now sold out with no tickets available on the door – please keep an eye on the PLAYLIST Eventbrite page for details of their next event in the new year.

Headlining the event are four of the most exciting young folk musicians working in the UK, including a recent graduate from the Music Department, Alex Garden. This quartet come together for their first ever performance as Zaffir. Garden and Collier featured in PLAYLIST’s April event at Cobbett Road Library in their duo The Drystones and they are joined for this brilliant new performance by Tom Moore plus Archie Churchill-Moss who won the BBC Young Folk Award in 2011 with his trio Moore, Moss, Rutter.

Another recent graduate Bethany Stenning performs as her artistic pseudonym Stanlæy. Having previously been described as sounding as if “Björk was asked to write the soundtrack to Titanic”, singer and multi-instrumentalist Bethany will present new material and arrangements with special guests. You can find out more about Stanlæy from her website: https://stanlaey.com/

To complete the evening and Southampton’s Music Department connection, composer and electric guitarist Ben Jameson will perform a brand new PLAYLIST commissioned work alongside British composer titan Laurence Crane’s Bobby J written in 1999. Having just completed his PhD, you can find out more about Ben from his website: https://btjameson.wordpress.com/

Curated by five Southampton-based professional musicians, PLAYLIST nights feature high quality music in amazing and unusual spaces. For full details, please visit soplaylist.eventbrite.com. Come and hear the music we want to hear!

Please note that PLAYLIST is a new Arts Council supported initiative. If you wish to be kept up to date with future PLAYLIST concerts, please email L.L.Johnson@soton.ac.uk and your address will be passed on to the PLAYLIST team.
