Event details

The Music Department are delighted to be collaborating with Mencap Southampton for a monthly musical lunchtime experience at their Café Down the Lane. On the first Wednesday of each month some of the department’s Showcase performers will be presenting an hour of music for the Café’s patrons at 1pm.

Luke Banerji is a 21 year old singer-songwriter from Maidenhead, Berkshire. He writes and performs emotive, thought provoking songs with influences from the likes of Frank Turner and James Bay. Luke started writing songs at the age of 14 and spent his school years performing solo and in bands before moving to study at the University of Southampton and continue writing and performing.

Southampton Mencap is found at 187a Portswood Road, located behind Coffee #1 on Portswood High Street. It is accessible via the access road next to the Natwest Bank with plenty of parking directly in front of the Mencap building, second on the left.

Café Down the Lane has been set up to help people with learning disabilities to learn vital work-place skills in a “real-world” environment. It is reasonably priced and welcomes regular patrons and new visitors through its doors on Wednesday lunchtimes. Our performers are helping support this very worthy project and we hope some of you may be able to do the same.

Please come along to enjoy a snack or drink during this performance.
