Event details

The Music Department are delighted to be collaborating with Mencap Southampton for a monthly musical lunchtime experience at their Café Down the Lane. On the first Wednesday of each month some of the department’s Showcase performers will be presenting an hour of music for the Café’s patrons at 1pm.

Southampton Mencap is found at 187a Portswood Road, located behind Coffee #1 on Portswood High Street. It is accessible via the access road next to the Natwest Bank with plenty of parking directly in front of the Mencap building, second on the left.

Café Down the Lane has been set up to help people with learning disabilities to learn vital work-place skills in a “real-world” environment. It is reasonably priced and welcomes regular patrons and new visitors through its doors on Wednesday lunchtimes. Our performers are helping support this very worthy project and we hope some of you may be able to do the same.

Performances today will be from singers Alexandra Papanastassiou and Sarah Patsalidou.

Alexandra Papanastassiou is a Jazz/Pop singer-musician from Cyprus. She is currently in her third year of music studies at the University of Southampton. She has performed in various places as a solo singer as well as a member of an acapella group and gospel choir, Jazzmanix. She is currently performing regularly at a care home for the entertainment of residents. She takes part in open mic nights and other events.

Sarah Patsalidou is a Pop/Rock acoustic singer/songwriter from Cyprus studying music at the University of Southampton. She has played in various venues, such as bars and big concert halls. She has also participated in a lot of charity events over the years. She is currently recording her new single called "What if", which will be released this summer.

The two will be performing together, some acoustic covers of some well-known tunes along with some original songs written by Sarah.

Please come along to enjoy a snack or drink during this performance.
