As part of the Great War: Unknown War programme, the Hartley Library Special Collections are pleased to announce their forthcoming exhibition 'My War: My Story' which will run from October to December 2018.

Drawing on material in the Special Collections, Hartley Library, the exhibition`My War: My Story' will tell the wartime experience of a number of individuals. One of those featured will be Gladys Helen Rachel Montagu, Baroness Swaythling who was praised for her "public-spirited endeavours" and for applying herself "with unwearied zeal to numerous essential public undertakings in Southampton" during the First World War. Lady Swaythling was President of the Southampton branches of the Auxiliary of the YMCA and Women’s Emergency Corps, as well as the War Hospital Supply Depot, Southampton, and served on eighteen committees, including as chair of the Wounded Allies Relief Committee, established for the provision of convalescent homes for wounded Belgian soldiers.
