The Careless Seamstress given by Tjawangwa Dema

You are cordially invited to the F. T. Prince Memorial Lecture which will be given by Tjawangwa Dema.

In this special event, TJ Dema reads from her collection The Careless Seamstress, and discusses her work and poetic practice.

Tjawangwa Dema is a poet, teaching artist and arts administrator. In 2018 her collection The Careless Seamstress won the Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poetry. A former Fall Resident at the University of Iowa's International Writing Program as well as a 2016 Visiting Artist at Northwestern University's Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities, Tjawangwa is an Honorary Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol. In addition to appearing in various journals and anthologies her work has been translated into languages including Spanish, German, and Chinese. She sits on the steering committee for the Lyra Poetry festival and co-produces the Africa Writes literary festival in Bristol.
